Ideally, you send us your source texts in one of the following file formats:
- MS Office documents [.doc(x) /.xls(x) /.ppt(x)] or Rich Text Format [.rtf]
- OASIS documents (e.g. OpenOffice) [.odt /.ods /.odp]
- Plain text [.txt] or markup text [.html / .xml / LaTeX]
- Localization files like key-value pairs, Java ressources, GNU Gettext files, XML, ...
These file formats are better suited to being processed than, for example, Adobe's Portable Document Format [.pdf] or common image file formats [.bmp / .jpg / .gif / .png ]. Exceptions are image formats with seperate text layers like, for example, files from Adobe Photoshop [.psd] or the Gimp [.xcf].
We will have to scan paper documents you send in via postal service and process them into an electronic format. Please understand that this extra work will show up on the offer as well as on the invoice (as per our Quotes).
To keep our translations consistent and to guarantee high quality, we make use of translation memory technology such as the industry standard SDL Trados Studio 2011 as well as the Open Source tool OmegaT. For software localization, we work in Lokalize and PoEdit. Ask us if you work in other translation memory environments and want to send or receive files from their projects. Usually, all those programs are capable of exporting and importing the standard Translation Memory eXchange [.tmx] format.
